Sheet Piling FAQ – Information about our Sheet Piles and more
General Information about the Sheet Pile Wall
What are Sheet Piles, and what are they used for?
Sheet piles are interlocked by interlocking locks in such a way that, in combination with bituminous or synthetic seals, they create a heavy-duty, water-resistant barrier. The individual steel profiles are inserted into the ground with the help of special construction machines and additionally secured by other elements, such as anchors. Sheet pile walls are used in special underground construction to secure construction pits, seal against groundwater, and be used in areas with limited space.
What are the advantages of Sheet Piles made of steel?
-
High water tightness
-
Chemical resistance
-
Short construction time due to high performance and prefabrication
-
Expandable and reusable
-
Undisturbed earth excavation
-
Undisturbed earth excavation
-
Low-noise and vibration-free application, depending on the construction process
- Stress-strain behavior of steel (ductility)
How are Sheet Piles inserted into the ground?
Our sheet piles are inserted by ramming, vibration or pressing in using carrier devices or free-riding machines. The appropriate method for inserting the planks into the ground depends on factors such as soil conditions, embedding depth, and environmental protection requirements. The interlocking locks ensure a form-locking and waterproof connection of the steel profiles.
In which application areas are Sheet Pile Walls particularly relevant?
In addition to excavation pit construction, securing off-road jumps, and port construction, sheet piles are increasingly being used in flood protection and landfill construction, as well as in other projects with specific requirements in the field of deep foundation.
Sheet pile walls in flood protection: more relevant than ever
In times of rising flood disasters, which are more common due to climate change, urbanization, and the agricultural development of nature, steel sheet pile walls play a central role in flood protection. We at Hoesch Spundwand have made it our mission to find efficient solutions for securing river courses, banks, and the like with our high-quality and versatile sheet-wall systems.
Hoesch Sheet Pile Walls and more – Information about our products
What material is used for Hoesch Sheet Pile Walls?
Our profiles are made of hot-rolled steel.
The sheet piles usually consist of unalloyed structural steel.
As a result, unlike cold-rolled profiles made of sheet metal, more complicated geometry can be designed, which allows for higher cost-effectiveness and stability.
With excellent ram properties, high torque resistance, and high structural rigidity, the planks offer an economical solution for various applications. U-profiles and Z-profiles are common shapes that can be combined as desired. In addition, there is the possibility to combine the sheet piles with support planks (carriers/tubes), which ensures maximum load capacity.
What material requirements do our Sheet Piles meet?
All relevant technical information and necessary standards for our products, such as dimensions and shape tolerances, as well as the steel quality and surface quality of our steel grades, can be found under our technical delivery conditions. The main production standard in the EU is DIN EN 10248.
More information about our sheet piles, lengths, and profiles can be found on our product pages for Hoesch Profiles (Z-Profiles) as well as Larssen-Profiles (U-Profiles), as well as in our Product Manual!
How does Hoesch contribute to Sustainability and Environmental Protection?
Sustainability is very important in the Hoesch family. This not only concerns low-emission production in our production facilities and our rental service with resource-saving sheet pile processing, but also the possibility of using gentle installation methods. Moreover, steel is chemically safe in the underground and in water.
Why are Hoesch Sheet Piles the Right Choice?
Hoesch not only offers high-quality sheet piles made of hot-rolled steel but also many years of experience as a service and system provider as well as a manufacturer who constantly develops technical solutions for new projects.
